Black masterbatch is a kind of color masterbatch, but its status is somewhat different from other color masterbatches. Black masterbatch is one of the most commonly used color masterbatches in plastic processing, and also the largest amount of color masterbatch. Black masterbatch is a plastic colouring agent which is well dispersed by high proportion of pigments or additives and thermoplastic resins. The selected resin has good wetting and dispersing effect on the colouring agent, and has good compatibility with the coloured material, that is: pigments + carriers + additives = colour masterbatch.

Black mother is widely used in plastic processing industry, such as injection molding, extrusion molding and blow molding. In real life, it is widely used in injection moulding of automobile plastic parts, extrusion moulding of plastic pipes, production of agricultural film and geotechnical materials.

Production process introduction:

(1) Ink method: As the name implies, it is the production method of ink paste in the production of masterbatch, that is, through three rolls grinding, a layer of low molecular weight protective coating is coated on the surface of the pigment. After grinding, the fine color paste is mixed with the carrier resin, then plasticized by a two-roll plasticizer (also known as a twin-roll mill), and finally granulated by a single screw or twin-screw extruder.

(2) Flushing method: the pigments, water and dispersants are grinded by sand to make the pigments particles less than 1 micron, and the pigments are transferred into oil phase by phase transfer method, and then the color masterbatch is dried. Organic solvents and corresponding solvent recovery devices are needed for phase inversion.

(3) kneading: after mixing the pigments and oil carriers, the pigments can be washed from the water phase into the oil phase by kneading, taking advantage of the oil-affinity of the pigments. At the same time, the surface of the pigments is coated by an oil carrier to make the pigments disperse stably and prevent the pigments from agglomerating.
